1 Corinthians 7:17-24

Nov 16, 2025    Pastor Jared Nicastro

In 1 Corinthians 7:17-24, we encounter a transformative truth that challenges our modern obsession with circumstances and status: our identity and joy are not found in our situations, but in Christ alone. This passage addresses the 'if-only disease' that plagued the Corinthian church—and still infects us today. Whether it was Gentiles wanting to become Jewish through circumcision, Jews wanting to reverse their heritage, or slaves believing their status made them less valuable, everyone was convinced that different circumstances would bring spiritual fulfillment. God has sovereignly placed each of us exactly where we are for a purpose. Like an orchestra where every instrument matters—from violins to drums—God calls us to play our assigned part with faithfulness. We were 'bought with a price'—purchased by Christ's blood at the cross. This means our true identity is as beloved children of God, freed from sin's slavery and empowered to bring glory to God wherever we find ourselves.
